Pet Shop Boys-Did You See Me Coming?: Video

This is easily one of my favourite tracks from the new Pet Shop Boys album Yes and the video is a pretty basic amateur recording of the PSB's strolling around the German film studio Babelsberg.
That is in my opinion an okay thing and works for Did You See Me Coming? which is released on May 29th here in Ireland.

Little Boots-New In Town: Video

Electropop star Little Boots aka Victoria Hesketh is about to release her debut album Hands on June 5th here in Ireland. She first came to people attention last year when she put her great cover version of Hot Chip's Ready For The Floor on the Tenori-on, up on Youtube and it just seemed to snowball from there. So a record deal was signed and with IAMSOUND Records and the hype machine at the end of last year had her tipped to be one of 2009's biggest new musicians.

So will she live up to that hype? Well if her 3rd single New In Town is anything to go by then the answer is yes!
It is pure pop goodness and here is the video too.

Bat For Lashes: Moon And Moon: Live on the Culture Show.

The next single to be released from the new Bat For Lashes album Two Suns, is the very elegant Moon And Moon. There may not be an official video for it as of yet but her fabulous performance on the Culture Show a couple of months ago is beautifully haunting.

Ms Khan is no stranger to cover versions and memorable tracks include The Eurythmics Sweet Dreams and The Cure's A Forest, but recently she performed on Jo Whiley's The Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1 and covered the hugely popular King's Of Leon song Use Somebody.

It is a brave attempt but it's delicate and emotive.

Yuksek-Extraball (featuring Amanda Blank): Video

Yet another catchy electro single from Parisian new wave, electro DJ and producer Yuksek, but this time he features the MC talents of Philadelphia rapper Amanda Blank who has previously worked with Spank Rock and Aaron LaCrate and is currently on tour with Santigold. Similar in style to something The Filthy Dukes might produce but I am liking it the more I listen and looking forward to his set at The Twisted Pepper on May 8th.

State.ie and AU Magazine join forces to promote Irish music on both sides of the border.

State.ie and Alternative Ulster Magazine have come together to showcase bands on both side of the border and help them promote their music by staging live club events. Both scenes are producing vibrant and essential music and this collaboration between both magazines is about bringing both of those scenes together.

The first of the State Vs AU nights takes place at the Purty Loft, Dun Laoghaire on April 24th with Alphastates, And So I Watch You From Afar and Villagers all taking to the stage with State and AU DJ's rounding off the nights action. The night shall kick off at 8.00pm and shall run until 2.30am and the door tax is a baragin breaking €10.

The following club night on May 1st also in the Purty Loft sees Escape Act, The Rags, and John Shelly and The Creatures filling the bill on the night.

Club AU in Belfast's Lavery's Attic has been successfully running since August last year and their next club night on May 23rd sees the animated Super Extra Bonus Party headline alongside a number of other high quality acts TBC.

So if it's new music your after it seems this is the answer.

Ex Coldspoon Conspiracy members form new band Jogging.

The Coldspoon Conspiracy made quite an impression on the Dublin live scene a couple of years ago and this was backed by a great debut album Plays Well With Others, as well as high profile support slots with Explosions In The Sky, Arab Strap and Cursive. Unfortunately the band decided to call it a day in late 2006 with lead vocalist Pat Cannon deciding that he wanted to go down a different musical route to the rest of the band. However the remaining members Ronan Jackson, Peter Lee and Darren Craig chose to carry on regardless and this resulted in the birth of Jogging with Ronan this time taking the lead vocal spot.

Jogging are not too dissimilar to the Coldspoon but there is definitely a more mature sound from the band, they are heavier noise rock with tougher vocals that suits their sound.
The band have recently supported Crystal Antlers and Parts & Labor and are set to continue the trend with a support slot to My Disco and Scul Hazzards in Whelan's tonight.

You can make up your own mind by checking out their demo's on their MySpace Page.

Passion Pit cancel their European May tour.

According to the NME, Passion Pit have had to cancel their forthcoming UK and European tour due to 'A personal situation at home'.
Undoubtedly this shall affect their May 7th date at The Academy in Dublin.
The band hope to make up for the cancellations by playing their own shows around their festival dates during the summer months.
Passion Pit played to a packed out crowd in Whelan's in early March and were supported by Portland band Hockey. Both bands are set to release debut albums this year with Passion Pit releasing Manners on May 15th and Hockey releasing Mind Chaos on September 11th.

U: Mack up & coming gigs to include Mi Ami, !!! (Chk Chk Chk) and Squarepusher.

The U:Mack collective always have quite a high standard when it comes to putting on the more left of centre gigs and as a regular attendee, the latest round of gig announcements leaves me frothing at the mouth in excitement.

First up on April 25th in ALT is Squarepusher which, although announced back in February is one performance I am eager not to miss because A.I have never had the pleasure of catching Mr. Jenkinson live and B. I have been told he is unmissable. Here's hoping I am not disappointed.

Next up is Touch & Go newbies Mi Ami who blend afro disco beats alongside rough, screeching guitars bringing a thriving energy to your ears. They are definitely a band that will leave a mark wherever they play and their Crawdaddy show on May 9th should be no exception.

Photobucket

July 8th sees the return of dance punk band !!! or
Chk Chk Chk to Whelan's. Having caught them live a number of times now I can honestly say this is going to be a brilliant gig. They just know how to bring it live and it should be pretty special in Whelan's of all places. Bring a spare t-shirt as you will be left in a sweaty mess.

The Maccabees-Love You Better: Video

Love You Better is the brand new single from Brighton based indie band The Maccabees. It gets its release on April 24th and is taken from their second studio album Wall Of Arms which is out on May 1st. I am a little bit in love with Orlando Weeks' voice and this song has reminds me of Wolf Parade.
I hope the album is as good.

Kasabian-Vlad The Impaler (featuring Noel Fielding): Video

Kasabian have just released the video to their new single Vlad The Impaler and true to it's title, the video is about an evil character with a moustache, played by Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh) that skulks about the fields and woods impaling people with a large pencil or post (I would prefer it to be a super pencil myself).
Two minutes of mild entertainment and the song is not too bad neither.

Tiny Masters Of Today-Skeletons: Video

The Tiny Masters Of Today are back with their second album Skeletons on April 10th through Mute Records. The first infectious single to be taken from the new album is also titled Skeletons and for two young teenagers (15 and 13 respectively) it's pretty decent. Having previously worked with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kimya Dawson and Fred Schneider (The B-52's) these kids are quite respected amongst their peers already it seems.

I will let you make your own mind up though.
