Live Photos: Hard Working Class Heroes 2010

Last weekend The Hard Working Class Heroes Festival took place over three days, in 6 venues at night and 16 venues during the day.
With a champion lineup in place to keep you gloriously running around from venue to venue, it made me very proud to be part of something that showcased some of the incredible talent that's coming out of Ireland right now. Whether you attended as a punter, volunteer, journalist, panelist, photographer etc it doesn't matter, as anyone I spoke to seemed to bask in the enthusiasm of it all. There were timetable clashes galore, but it's a festival after all and I tried to meet a nice balance of new music (I finally managed to see Enemies - a definite highlight) and familiar (The wonderful Halves, energetic Le Galaxie and loud and brilliant Le Faro) and it paid off nicely.

Also at this years festival I was picked to showcase one of my photo's at the HWCH Photography exhibition which runs in The Workmans Club, Dublin until October 30th, so pop on down if you get a chance as there is some fantastic shots on display from 14 other photographers too.
In between venue hopping and watching bands I managed to take a few shots over the weekend. Some of which you can see below and the full set you can view here.

Congrats to all involved for pulling off such a fantastic weekend!

The Noises In Our Heads Present The Evening Watch plus very special guests...

This is the second gig of 2009 for The Noises In Our Heads. After a packed out gig back in June with Incommunicado, Jennifer Evans & The Ripe Intent and Slurps in the Lower Deck, I am set to do it all over again. This time the fun shall be staged in The Twisted Pepper on Abbey Street and the lineup is as follows:

Over the last three months
The Evening Watch have been working tirelessly on lots of new songs since their days as Incommunicado. This indie electronic outfit based in Dublin have influences ranging across the board from Kings Of Convenience to Jim O'Rourke and like to use a large range of instruments on stage including live strings. A feast for the ears indeed.

Next up is The Indecent Cigar Emporium, who are a 6 piece outfit that started out playing psychedelic bluegrass until the funk got the better of them and they have since evolved into a quirky funk, beat driven band with a large sense of humour. It's Metronomy meets The Flight Of The Conchords.

With a name like Lumière you would expect lo fi, ambient or classical music but not with this band. This alternative rock outfit based in Dublin tear it up with loud, breakneck guitars and drums. Fans of Hot Club De Paris and Foals should enjoy them.

November 18th is the date and the door tax is €6...Bargain!

Dermostat - Comfort Food: Video

Dermostat aka Dermot O'Leary to his real friends and family, is a singer songwriter from Carlow who started making music with his former band Alanalda. He decided on a recent name change since going solo, as he made most of the music himself anyway and his first offering under Dermostat is the very wonderful song and video to accompany, Comfort Food. It has underlying notes of Belle and Sebastien partying it up with The Lemonheads (yes a very interesting party at that) but with a quirky tone delivered similarly by Grandaddy.
Dermot who also is a member of Dublin based band The Evening Watch (formerly known as Incommunicado) plans to write and record more material in the near future so check him out and let us and him know what you think. The video for Comfort Food was directed by Doodler Films.
