Simian Mobile Disco-Audacity Of Huge: Video

Simian Mobile Disco are about to drop their second studio album this summer called Temporary Pressure. Out on August 14th it expected to be pretty darn good with special guest galore lending their vocal talents on various tracks.
Guests include Jamie Lidell, Beth Dito, Gruff Rhys and Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip. Also featured is Chris Keating from the marvellous Yeasayer, who manages to inject a fun vocal into the superb first single from the album, Audacity Of Huge.
Following the release of Attack Delay Sustain, James Ford has been a busy man, producing albums for The Arctic Monkeys, Florence And The Machine and Peaches, it's a wonder how he managed to fit in the time to make an album of his own with SMD partner Jas Shaw.
Let's hope the results are as fruitful as his productions.

Hard Working Class Heroes launch tonight!

I like the idea for this year's launch of the Hard Working Heroes Festival taking place in a variety of independent record shops who, not only support up and coming musicians but help give them a break in some way or another.
This evening shall see three different performances in three different record shops. Starting at 6.15pm this evening in Freebird Records (The old Secret Book & Records Shop) on Wicklow Street, Biggles Flys Again opens the proceedings. At 6.45pm Dublin based duo The Ambience Affair take on the crowds in Road Records, Fade Street, with the promised treat of free chips to fill your bellies and lastly, at 7.15pm Belfast band And So I watch You From Afar take to the stage in Tower Records on Wicklow Street and this time the food treat is Pizza.

During the launch more details of this years festival shall be announced and musicians can get more details on how to apply to be part of this years line-up as well as aspiring music photographers. For more info check out the HWCH website.

Michael Jackson RIP.

It's an unbelievably sad day as the shock finally sinks in that the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson is no longer with us. I think most people I know have had a Michael Jackson moment in their life, whether that is dancing with your Dad to Billie Jean at your aunts wedding, tried to moonwalk after a few pints in your local disco or did the whole dress up as a zombie from the Thriller video for Halloween
It is fair to say the man inspired more than one generation of music fans and influenced thousands of musicians and

may the legend that is Michael Jackson be remembered for this.

We Have Band-You Came Out: Video

One of my favourite video's of 2009 is You Came Out from We Have Band. Directed by David Wilson, It is an interesting animation where no live footage was used, but instead the video comprises of 4,816 still images which yields stellar results. We have band are Darren Bancroft, Dede W and Thomas W and You Came Out is available now on Kill Em All Records.

The Kill Em All club night takes place once a month in Fabric in London. This month on July 3rd in Room 2, sees a packed and excellent line-up, with Holy Ghost, Riton, Filthy Dukes and The Rumblestrips all taking to the stage. For more info go HERE

Steve Van Zandt to broadcast his radio show live from Tower Records, Dublin on July 12th.

The Urges @ The Academy, May '08

This is a pretty cool scoop for Tower Records on Wicklow Street, as July 12th is the day Steve Van Zandt of The E Street band fame or even more famously known as Silvio Dante in The Soprano's, broadcasts his Little Steven's Undergound Garage show live from Tower Records on Dublin City FM.

Also on the day two excellent live bands, The Urges (pictured above) and Len Price Three shall take to the Tower stage. Both bands are currently signed to Steve's Wicked Cool label in the USA alongside The Woggles and The Chesterfield Kings and highlights the best of today's modern Garage scene.

Fever Ray - Triangle Walks: Video

Karen Dreijer Andersson aka Fever Ray has just released another weird and spooky video to Triangle Walks, keeping in practise with previous video productions including those from The Knife.
Enjoy the inky imagery to an excellent synth pop track.

Doves - Winter Hill: Video

I have done quite a lot of listening lately to the current Doves album Kingdom Of Rust and I really can't fault it. They are a band I have loved since seeing them in the old Roisin Dubh on their Lost Souls tour and it was re-affirmed just how great a band they are when they played a stunning show, to a sell out crowd in the Olympia back in April. Winter Hill is a great track off the album and it's no surprise it is lined up as the next Doves single. You can check it below.

A Quick Word...

Apologies for the lack of blogging last week but I decided to take time out and head down to glorious Connemara for some much needed craic with my family. Anyway back to reality and I firstly want to thank a few people for making The Noises In Our Heads first gig go down a storm on Thursday night.

Thanks firstly to the talent, Slurps, Jennifer Evans & The Ripe Intent and headliner's Incommunicado. Jill the very patient and lovely sound engineer in the Lower Deck and Barry for helping us set the whole thing up. Paddy and Ash for doing the door and Andrew for filming the performances. Hazel for taking some brilliant pics and last but not least to everyone who came down and supported the three bands.
It is much appreciated and here is to next time, which hopefully shall be quite soon. Big Love.

Thecocknbullkid-Clean Apart: Free MP3

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to see Anita Blay aka Thecocknbullkid supporting Casio Kids and Friendly Fires at the Heineken Spheres gig in Waterford. It must have been slightly daunting opening for the full capacity crowd who were predominantly there to catch headline act Friendly Fires, but Blay delivered with a cool, sleek confidence and without arrogance, smiling back at the many faces crammed against the barrier to see her perform.

IAMSOUND Records have just announced that they shall be releasing an EP from the 23 year old synth pop singer from London in August titled the Querelle EP. It shall consist of four tracks Kiss Kiss Kill, Clean Apart, Boys And Girls and the very excellent I'm Not Sorry. To keep us happy while we wait for the EP release IAMSOUND are giving away a free mp3 of Clean Apart. You can get your copy here

Bumblebeez-Misfit: Video

Another Australian band I like but have remained under the radar at this end of the globe is Bumblebeez. The band are brother and sister Chris and Pia Colonna and their friend, Jarrah Kidd who provides their guitar sounds, in their non traditional cut and paste technique when morphing hip hop and rock together. Before you run away with your hands over your ears praying that there is not another Aerosmith Vs Run DMC on the way, then panic over as this band are more left of centre than that.
Bumblebeez are currently signed to
Modular and recording their next album but in the mean time they have dropped Misfit on us. An unusual blend of noises make up this track including a Nintendo DSi which is used quite effectively. The video to accompany the song is even more unique and tells the story about a gifted misfit (weirdly enough) trying to "find his place in the world".
Definitely worth a watch.

Empire Of The Sun-Standing On The Shore: Video

The kooky duo that make up Empire Of The Sun, Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, out do their peculiarity in their new video Standing On The Shore. From dancing fish people to electricity shooting from Steele's very own hands it's quite charming and fantastic. The video was shot north of Perth, Australia and was directed by Josh Logue who also directed the video's to Walking On A Dream, We Are The People and Architecture In Helsinki's Like It Or Not.
Enjoy the next four colourful minutes.

Peaches- Lose You: Video

The next track to feature as a single from Peaches latest album I feel Cream is Lose You. It's quite bizarre to say the least but with a humorous twist. It's a cracking track and has a bit of a Goldfrapp vibe to it. There are some excellent remixes of Lose You doing the rounds too including one from
Brodinski and Yuksek and another from Drums of Death.

The single is out in July!

Believe The Hype: The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

This 9 piece street group based in New York, formed in Chicago in 2004.
8 out of the 9 in the group are brothers, with their Father being famous jazz trumpeter and musical activist Phil Cohran of the Sun Ra Arkestra. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble consist of eight horn players and one drummer who play hip hop and funk inspired Jazz and seem to captivate their audiences wherever they play, whether that's in a tube station or at a gig, they mesmerize. I recently missed their Dublin show put on by Choice Cuts in The Button Factory so I settled for watching them on Jools Holland where they blew me away. Luckily I get a second chance to see them live as they support Blur in Hyde Park on July 2nd.

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble have performed with Mos Def, Erykah Badu and Maxwell and have released albums and 10"s independently, but now just released is a self titled album on the Honest Jon's label. Their passion for music runs in their family and HBE always encourage their audience to keep live music alive. If it's fresh and funk driven beats your after then this is the band for you.

Micachu And The Shapes-Golden Phone: Video

The Micachu and The Shapes album Jewellery released in April this year is one of 2009's more eccentric albums. With most instruments on Jewellery home made, it's no wonder Mica Levi (Micachu) is being talked up. There are many interesting and excellent tracks on the album including Lips and Curly Teeth but one of them is definitely Golden Phone and here it is accompanied by a video.
